Military operations conducted since World War II have been characterized by names that allude to abstract ideas and suggest scenes of mythological origin, maximalist moral values, and superior forces. It would seem that the poetic inspiration of the intelligence services that choose these names must be ostentatiously naive to guarantee the strategic success of the operations and their objectives. The obviousness and lack of poetic quality of the associations produced by this nominalist approach could be proportional to the explicit violence and the complexity of the technological resources deployed in the operations. The list of these operations offers a perverse, low-grade poetic anthology. Through the process of documenting and collecting images online of a wide range of military operations, and the subsequent analysis of their semantic associations, a video is produced that links documentary images corresponding to the operations with others that appear in search engines when the pairs of concepts that give them their names are entered. The combination of all the possibilities on the initial 180 images creates an extensive list of 4,048 associations of possible new names.
