The image of two monochrome flags that bring chromatic reduction to its maximum expression, both aesthetic and political, was an idea that had been around me for a long time. It was during the preparation of the retrospective exhibition “Solid that melts in the air” when, considering the sequence and arrangement of the works, I saw that my work has often featured these objectual elements that are supports for political and/or identity manifestations, whether banners or flags.

At first I thought of making these two flags as monochrome sculptural pieces frozen in their movement, but suddenly I found myself drawing them and I understood that modeling from chiaroscuro with charcoal dust on paper connected directly with a kind of melancholic suprematism of an idealistic type. It is with the title given to the work that the ironic twist that connects our present, disenchanted with maximalist options, is provoked, with the historical claim of what was and was not fully developed. Be that as it may, the pacifist option and the anarchist (two political options that seem antagonistic), do not enjoy their best predicament despite summoning many personal adhesions that irremediably clash with the neoliberal and apocalyptic reality of our global present. Even so, both one option and the other still suppose possible ways of deactivating the paranoid logic of the system.
