Wait to break, however slightly, the situation of oppressive monotony – as in the case of the  patient or desperate waiting of the immigrant – endure the social paradoxes with those who we habitually cohabitate. This piece confronts these paradoxes by recovering the visibility of an image which, through its being all too commonplace, has lost its intrinsic impact. Is it only through spectacularization or sarcasm that we tend to the daily dramas of our immediate surroundings? The social casting to which we submit the immigrant population expresses insecurities and contradictions inherent in the system. To disclose and to hide are the two poles of a political dialectic which is reflected in this piece.
A line of immigrants against the monumental façade is portrayed in attitudes of distension and preoccupation. The whole is composed of subgroups inter-relating amongst themselves, waiting in tedium or looking directly at the camera lens. The transparency of the photography and its placement on a metal bench strengthen the social tableaux function of the scene while the intermittent and fortuitous action of the three photographic spot lights adds a temporary dimension that intensifies the tension of the captured moment.
